# Driver settlement workflow: load to pay review

A driver settlement translates completed work into a reviewed pay statement under the carrier's own pay rules and agreements. It is related to, but distinct from, the customer invoice. A good process lets a reviewer trace every amount to the load and the rule or approval behind it.

## Reconciliation checklist

- Confirm the driver, truck, load, delivery status, and applicable pay arrangement.
- Pull the agreed base pay from the current rule or contract.
- Add approved extras such as detention only with the required supporting event.
- Identify deductions, advances, or chargebacks and their authorization.
- Check for duplicate loads or a load already included in another settlement.
- Give the reviewer a way to correct and approve the final statement.

For example, a driver reports two hours of detention. The settlement reviewer should see the arrival and departure evidence, the carrier's pay policy, and the approved amount. A message alone may be insufficient under the carrier's process.

## Keep the boundary explicit

Settlement preparation is not the same as payroll processing, tax advice, or moving money. Ask a vendor which system creates the final statement, which exports are supported, and how corrections flow back. RunaboutX's [driver settlements](/features/driver-settlements/) page describes the workflow example. See [POD to invoice](/resources/learn/pod-to-invoice/) for the customer-side handoff.
